A million flakes have fallen.
First light seeps through a dim lens
And beckons us to look out.
We measure, with our eyes,
The layers of disguise
That bury deep a world we had known.
The bleakness brings out color
As winter walls us in.
Kettles steam and embers glow
Within our homely hole
Where loving arms embrace against the cold.
