Five Hundred Penny Trees

Come with me my darling
Through the hemlock blaze
Where swaying branches
Paint against the sky.

There’s a path before us
Below the fiery haze
Where all our dreams and
Chances slipped us by.

Silently the whipsers
Of the wintry breeze
Surge with memories
Etched beneath our feet.

Night unfolds the stars
Above the penny trees
As again the swan
And the fallen meet.

* This is one of my favorite poems. I wrote it back on December 28th, 2008. It is a part of a series of poems that I wrote every day for a month between December 2008 and January 2009 … read more of them at on my old xanga site.
