The Crystal Lattice

Crisp and clear,
The day settles upon us,
Distinct and distinguished.

Sapphire mountains wrestle
With baby blue skies,
Fighting to define the horizon;
Struggling to set the boundaries.

The trees are naked; bare; shivering.

The forest opens, like a window,
Into the world on the other side.

The sun gazes,
With magnified intent,
Through a crystal lattice
Suspended in the air.

There is no doubt:
November is here;
Autumn is dying.
